We will think 2x about returning, even with the gift certificate. He tried to make it right, but we all felt that the entire meal should have been comped due to the horrible experience. Another manager offered us each small gift certificates, upon payment of the bill for the 4 mains & bread, for a return meal. We were also moved to a heated table, when it opened just after receipt of the wine, in an another attempt to correct THEIR mistake. 1 manager offered weak excuses and complimentary drinks and apps-we got a modest bottle of wine, no apps and no dessert-to appease our disappointment. Both couples arrived 10 minutes early for the reservation, but we had to wait 25 minutes to be offered 2 different tables that were NOT heated! A table for 4, under a heater, was given to two diners, rather than us, 15 minutes after our reservation time. I made an outside reservation and specifically requested it by a heater. Alex, our very good server, tried to rejuvenate our experience, but it had been destroyed by the management. My bill for both our meals including a soft drink each came to $55.I would have given 5 stars, if this review was based on the food alone, BUT it isn't. Mind you, I still ate it whilst mumbling "I can't believe they serve donuts as bread"!! For dessert we shared a key lime pie and a Banana pudding, both of which were OK, but nothing special. The bread was a huge surprise! It is of course common knowledge that American bread is too sweet for the average European pallet but I did not expect to be served a freshly deep-fried donut as bread. The server was efficient and brought us bread (for which we were not charged) whilst we studied the menu. My colleague had fried chicken tenders with slaw and fries which did not look the most appetising but were apparently very good. My meal of Sautéed Shrimp with Creamy Grit Cakes was superb, the best meal of the 5 I had in Gaithersburg that week. The area where Coastal Flats is is new and super clean! Not one piece of litter, not a single weed, not a spec of dirt and cars cleaned to show-room condition! We had no starters as we wanted to have desserts.
